Services

In keeping with our mission of meeting the material, educational, emotional and spiritual needs of disadvantaged and at-risk children, the Christ Child Society of Detroit (CCSD) offers the following services:

Christ Child House

Owned and operated by CCSD since 1948 and now located on a two acre campus in Detroit, Michigan, Christ Child House (CCH) is a state-licensed, residential treatment facility and haven for up to 28 seriously abused and neglected boys, ages 5 - 13. The facility provides individualized, professional medical, social, educational and recreational care/opportunities for its residents, many of whom are wards of the state.

Of course, the primary goal is to have the residents of CCH return to their families. Unfortunately, the breakdown of family is often so devastating that is not feasible. In those instances, CCH administers a hands-on adoption program designed to find each child a loving adoptive home and, as is often necessary, provides critical post-adoption support services. For more information about our adoption services, please contact us,

Layettes, Bereavement Gowns and Kroha Building

Since its inception, CCSD has followed in the inspired footsteps of its founder, Mary Virginia Merrick, in assembling and distributing free layettes containing a crib blanket, baby clothes and other basic items for less-fortunate mothers and their newborns. In those heartbreaking instances when a disadvantaged newborn fails to survive, CCSD has a bereavement gown program to partially temper the unspeakable loss by providing the family with a beautiful, lasting memory of their deceased child.

Recently, CCSD, through the generosity of several of it's donors, was fortunate enough to be able to acquire a building (located on Crooks Rd. in Clawson, MI) for its Layettes Program. To learn more about our wonderful new (to us) Kroha Layette Building, please click here.

You are encouraged to contact us for more information about our Layettes and Bereavement Gown programs.

Volunteer & Other Opportunities

CCSD has a rich tradition of providing regular financial and volunteer support to such organizations/institutions as Ronald McDonald House, CARE House of Oakland County, Heartwarmers, Open Hands Food Pantry, Whitmer Human Resources Center, Cornerstone Schools and Our Lady of Guadeloupe Middle School for Girls. More information about these opportunities can be obtained by contacting us.

Thank you for visiting the Christ Child Society of Detroit web site. We hope you enjoy your visit. Please feel free to contact us — we'd love to hear from you.
